Kansas City Royals Baseball, the Spirit of KC Sport

Talking about Royals Baseball, it is all about fun. You will witness Major League action at Kauffman Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals Baseball team. Since opened at April 10, 1973 and is recognized throughout baseball as one of the game’s most beautiful ballparks, many exciting games have been contested, including the 1973 All Star Game, three no hitters, payoffs fames 1976, ’77, ’78, 80, ’81, ’84 and ’85 and also World Series titles in 1980 and 1985.

In all of Kauffman Stadium’s 36 years, nothing could match the pinnacle achievement of October 27, 1985, first when the Kansas City Royals Baseball won their first and only World Series. The place was still known as Royals Stadium back then owner Erwin Kauffman was not convinced to lend his name to it until 1993, and had been the site of just one other World Series. In 1980, the Royals lost their first Series to the Philadelphia Phillies but, at Kansas City, they won two of the three games over Pete Rose & Co. in fact, they won their first Series game on October 17 in the 10th inning when Willie Wilson walked, stole second and scored on Willie Aiken’s single.

Of course, that World Series came only after the Royals finally, Royals beat the rival New York Yankees in the American League playoffs. It was a three game sweep. The first two wins came at Kansas City, but the clincher came at Yankee Stadium. In three playoffs losses to New York from 1976-78, just one ended at Royals Stadium. It was in ’77, the year many believe the Royals had their best team in history, when the Yankees rallied with three runs in the ninth to win 5-3.

It was Kansas City’s division clinching in 1976 that prompted one of the happiest episodes in Stadium history, when the place opened in ’73, second baseman Cookie Rojas vowed that when the Royals won their first title he’d jump into the water display in right field.

Kauffman Stadium or ‘the K’ opened April 10, 1073. In addition, of beautiful ballpark scenery, there is special events and promotions planned all summer long including Fireworks after every Friday night home game and Fan Fun Runs on Sundays, when all fans can run the bases following the game.
